Is it THAT bad??

If you google; can one live off Ensure alone? there are several different answers! Some websites / opinions say YES (but 6 cans a day are required) others say NO!
What is the correct answer? Is there one?
Many people ask me, is there a way to "fix" this? Will he grow out of it? Am I REALLY that worried about it?.....well, excuse me for this one....but HELL yes, I worry! wouldn't you!?!?!? My child doesn't eat!!!! I can get past the meats...but no fruits or veggies! And I personally cant afford him to drink 6 cans a day!
I sometimes get so frustrated that Ensure & Pediasure are so expensive, but its not that bad when you consider, that's his "groceries" for the week!
So, I don't really know if one can live off ensure alone! Are there any professionals out there that can answer this one??

As I'm sitting here typing tonight, Price is standing here next to me, I'm feeding him 2 yogurts....and he is singing with Diego! Just keeps looking at the TV, opening his mouth when he see's the spoon!  Sorta like a 1 year old!

Lets talk about that one....YES, I said I am feeding, and YES, he's 5 years old! THIS is the kinda behavior our therapist hate to see! WEAK parents like myself! Its S U C H a battle to fight him - I choose my battles and when it comes to him eating, I don't fight a good fight! I cave in to him...bc I want him to eat! Yogurt & applesauce are the only 2 things he "requires" me to feed him! - Are you in disbelief right now?? are you saying to yourself, I cant believe she still feeds him?? OR are you thinking, I would do the exact same thing! Whatever it takes? Does it effect him that I feed him? To me, its kinda like potty training, - just chill out, they WILL get it!! NO one graduates from high school in diapers!

Next post will be about potty training, since I just brought that up!

so what DOES he eat?

This is seriously everything he eats....to bad I can actually name every single thing!

Cool Ranch Doritos
Cheese Doritos
Fritos
Sour Cream & onion Pringles
(bite size) Tostitos
(SMALL) McDonalds Fry
Raising Canes Fries
Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts
Oreo's
Seasonal Pillsbury sugar cookies
Vanilla Yogurt
Blueberry Applesauce
rainbow yogurt (hand scooped from TCBY)
M&M's (plain) -from Orange leaf (no ice cream, just M&M's in cup)
graham crackers
nilla wafers

I'm sure there is a little more, but notice NO meats, Fruits or Veggies!
He does get 3 Ensure a day!!
~ I will touch on this (Ensure issue) another day!

Also, another thing is Price is VERY much about a label! He HAS to have these EXACT brands I listed! He will check the package on everything he eats!!! If he doesn't see where it comes from, he wont eat it! As far as the french fries - it has to be a small, he wont eat it from any other package...and YES, we have tried to keep the package and bake "fast food" fries and put them in there, he noticed!!!!

ok...so this is it for today! What are your thoughts? Now how picky is your child?? is it similar to this!?!?!?

Lots more to come!

where are the signs?

I'm not real sure when all of this began! I wish I would have taken notes...been a little more observant! Am I loosing my mind? my advice for the day...if you have an extremely picky child - watch for signs....just how picky is your child? will he or she even touch the food? what about when its a baby in a high chair....when playing with cheerios or cut up hot dogs....mine NEVER did this!
I have always catered to his needs, bc I'm not strong enough to not feed him! Some moms are....this one is not! He ate baby food for so long....I remember even at 2 1/2 making baby food so that he was at least getting something!!!

One reason I went all the way back to me being pregnant with him is bc looking back....are there early signs? I was very sick pregnant! Had to change alot of things....also, the week we spent in the hospital...could that have done something? the IV he was on for a week? Every time we see a new therapist, they want history...all the way to your pregnancy! WHY?? Why does that matter?

The first therapy we ever went to, Price was maybe 2?? They strapped him in a high chair, "bc kids are supposed to eat in a high chair at a table"....they gave him jello, cheerios & pudding...he didn't grab it like that wanted him to, so they just gagged him with it! We did this for about 3 weeks in a row, he began to scream as soon as we would pull up to the building...and he suddenly wouldn't get near our high chair!  UGH!

We have been told 3 times that Price is a perfect candidate for Baylor Research Program!! Ever heard of it? Ive been told that you stay in a hotel, (that you pay for)...and 3 meals / 2 snacks a day...they gag it out with your child!! Til some progress has been made! WoW! Could you do this to your child? Do you know anyone that has gone thru this process? Did it help?

In the beginning.....

Being pregnant is a beautiful thing to me personally. You are creating life!! I am the proud mother of two boys. The first pregnancy was too easy. No morning sickness, mood swings, nothing really wrong except I had ice cream almost every day and gained a whopping 50lbs!!! Labor was as wonderful as labor be, at 36 weeks pregnant, my water breaks, a few short hours of labor, baby boy has arrived!! Healthy, beautiful, and screaming like they are suppose to!!! Life is great!!
Since the first go round was so easy and I come from a family of 5 siblings, all at least 8-10yrs older than me, I was sure not to do the same thing. I wanted my children close so they would always have each other and can share things in common.  All the crazy joys of having children back to back sounded fun to me!! I was up for the challenge!
So, only five months later, I am pregnant again! Whoo hoo! Thank you Jesus, I have been blessed. Things are really not as wonderful this go round. I’m sick every morning, afternoon & evening for the first 6 months.  My morning coffee and cereal and now been replaced with a chocolate carnation breakfast, every single morning for 9 long months.   Almost everything made me sick, I could smell everything, and everything was horrible. I could no longer chew gum or hardly even brush my teeth! I learned that cinnamon tooth paste wasn’t as bad, so I also started chewing cinnamon gum, which I could only chew for 3 minutes tops.  No major complications, just personal pregnancy issues. Baby is healthy and everything is great. At 38 weeks, my sweet baby boy number 2 arrives! Super easy delivery, one push and a cough, he was out! Beautiful and weighing in at 7lbs & 7oz, another healthy baby boy, named Price. Once again, I am blessed!
Time to go home and all the sudden we have some complications. Its day two of us being in the hospital and Price has a rash all over his face. Doctors, nurses and family immediately think it’s just a newborn rash. It could also be that he was exposed to bacteria, because he dropped so early.
The rash clears up the next mornings, but, after a week in the hospital and several IV’s of antibiotics we get to go home and there were no bacteria. Turns out it was just a rash. But, with those newborns, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Now we are home, I’m starring reality in the face that I have a newborn and a  14 month old, which by the way, learned to walk the week we were in the hospital with Price. Life is crazy busy. I am a full time student and my husband is mostly working out of town.  Life is going by fast, I’m not able to breastfeed because of some complications I had with Peyton.  About 4 months later, we start rice cereal with a spoon! Price is very quick to gag. Every single time, it’s worse and worse. I wait about a month to try again. Now, Price is 6 months old and should have this down, still very much against eating. He spits it out, doesn’t want it, and gags every time. I now try the yummy jar food. I buy almost every flavor for sure he will eat one of them.
Now we are at 8 months old. No solid foods, however, he does finally seem to enjoy orange baby food. Nothing green, for that makes him gag! I remember one day, sitting at our kitchen table and Peyton tried to give Price a puffy cheeto, Price spits it out so fast.  He made the worst face, like that really was the worst thing he had ever had!
Now, about at a year old, Price still hasn’t had solid foods. But, after many, many attempts at almost every food possible, he does still get his orange baby food and he also likes two types of yogurt.
We have now started Price on Pediasure and ensure.  Plus, I have him on Vitamin D milk and of course I slip in a chocolate carnation breakfast. My main goal here was to try to get the vitamins and minerals in him any way I could.  This is probably where I went wrong, he is filling up on liquids.
At his 1st birthday, he barley licked the icing off his cake.  My pictures of his party are
Peyton eating Price’s cake.  Now, this part becomes a big blur to me. I’m not sure when I
noticed this eating or lack thereof to be a problem. At about 15 months old, I’m at the doctor
with Peyton who is sick. I need to add that Price is hardly ever sick. I like to think it’s the ensure
that has built his immune system to be very strong.  I start to talk to the pediatrician about Price
not eating.  She suggests that I give up the liquids, make him sit at the table with us for every
meal and eat what is in front of him, if he doesn’t eat, he doesn’t eat.
This is all for today! Would you / have you done this  to your child? Did it work?

Lets get started!

How do you know when your child is a "picky" eater? or needs therapy bc of texture and / or fine motor skills?? Are there signs??
